My thoughts while creating this sound collage involved the idea of leaving planet earth on an endless journey and all the new ways of living a person would have to adjust to… it would be like learning a new language for me.

Esperanto

Esperanto is the International Language invented in 1887 for the purpose for promoting World Peace through better communication.

Esperanto is an invented language and is not based on any particular nation or tribe’s native language. Thus it is considered a neutral language for International dialogue.

Part I – The Launch

Our journey begins with a three track group of collages composed of original recorded material by UFOverdriver mixed alongside a loop from the classic Sheep by Pink Floyd, which is joined in track three with a loop from Aztec Camera’s version of Jump.

Overlaid on the tracks are recordings from various Apollo missions, a speech by Sen. Barack Obama on the campaign trail, short clips from Wall Street and Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and other stuff…

The overall direction of The Launch is to reflect on the promises that were presented to us, the voters, by Senator Barack Obama while on the campaign trail in early 2008.

Part II – The Space Odyssey

12 Minutes and 44 seconds into the collage The Space Odyssey begins…

The next 6 tracks were constructed using the audio from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, which I downloaded from YouTube in thirteen parts of approximately ten and a half minutes each.

I took the audio from selected parts (tracks 4 through 6 used parts 12, 11 , 9, 13, and 1 – while tracks 7 through 9 used parts 10, 5, 6, 8, and 7 – see graphic below) and stacked them in layers in my mixer. Then I played around with the volume of the various layers while applying various effects to create “chance” loops of sounds.

Included in The Space Odyssey is several extensive sound clips from philosopher Alan Watts. I offer no opinion at this point on Alan Watts ideas and concepts, I just liked the sound of his voice and the pacing of his speech. UFOverdriver – Year One

UFOverdriver has become, for me, a valuable outlet for the collage of ideas that run around my head, for all my musical DJ moments, as a way to express the poetic arts and as a way to travel deeper into the great, universal subconsciousness.

Throughout the year I’ve been referring to the UFOverdriver as a ship, a vessel rather than a music venture or a band. Working inside this metaphor has allowed me incredible freedom with this project and created an artist space that can not be seen, but exists only when the UFOverdriver is in motion and sound collages are being created to record the moment.

Christmas is going to bring a few equipment upgrades to the UFOverdriver as my Christmas gift money gets invested into this ship. I was thinking a Tesla Sonic Inducer would be a nice addition, along with a Tesla Anti-Gravity Acoustic Wireless Thought Projector. I just might have enough for that if I can get them on sale after Christmas…

Needless to say, 2011 should be interesting. I’ll see you there.

About This Sound Collage

Created and Mixed between December 21-23, 2010 – released December 24, 2010

This special single includes samples from Johnny Cash, Lou Rawls, Charlie Brown, Linus, more Johnny Cash and some Brian Eno ambiance called “Deep Blue Day” which sounds a lot like The Little Drummer Boy (my favorite Christmas song when I was kid) and pieces from The Beatles various Christmas fan club albums.

Extra sounds in this collage includes shopping malls, checkout-stand noises and other oddities of Christmas.

It’s been a very busy month for UFOverdriver – lots of recordings and new mixes.

Many of the new sound collages have become, for me, a record of this moment in time when our country is making a hard shift towards dystopia.

Nope is the new Hope, Secrecy is the new Transparency, Censorship is the new Freedom of the Press, Propaganda is today’s FauxNews…

I plan on remixing the material from this period into a bigger piece focusing on this recent dystopian shift. Stay tuned…

Definition: Dystopia

A dystopia (from Ancient Greek: δυσ-: bad-, ill- and Ancient Greek: τόπος: place, landscape) (alternatively, cacotopia,^[1] or anti-utopia) is, in literature, an often futuristic society that has degraded into a repressive and controlled state, often under the guise of being utopian.

Dystopian literature has underlying cautionary tones, warning society that if we continue to live how we do, this will be the consequence.

A dystopia, thus, is regarded as a sort of negative utopia and is often characterized by an authoritarian or totalitarian form of government.

Dystopias usually feature different kinds of repressive social control systems, a lack or total absence of individual freedoms and expressions and constant states of warfare or violence. Dystopias often explore the concept of technology going “too far” and how humans individually and en masse use technology.

A dystopian society is also often characterized by mass poverty for most of its inhabitants and a large military-like police force.

This week I offer you a break from all the Christmas music you’ve been hearing while you’re out shopping with an experimental mix from UFOverdriver using music and samples from Pink Floyd, Moby, U2 and Spiritualized.

I spent some time on this mix playing with asynchronous beats that sublimely change relationship over the course of the piece.

I made several versions of this piece with extra media material mixed into it – but the “clean” mix of music works very well on it’s own, so here is the podcast only (and here on the website of course) mix of They Call Me The Breeze – Run Baby Run On Mix – Club Version.

After being deeply inspired by Sen. Bernie Sanders’ filibuster/long speech on Friday, UFOverdriver worked quickly to make use of it in a sound collage. The goal was to capture the moment and preserve it in a form that would highlight long, uninterrupted stretches of his speech.

Sen. Bernie Sander began his speech at 10:25 AM and ended it over 8 1/2 hours later at 6:59 PM. Many of us who watched it as it happened felt we were watching a historic moment.

This sound collage is composed of 5 parts/tracks; with a short introduction, the beginning of the filibuster, a short interlude, another uninterrupted segment of the speech, and then the conclusion.

About This Sound Collage

Track One can be heard as a sound collage of this moment of social confusion and directionless fog, with President Obama playing the role of Suzy Creamcheese.

Both Track Two and Track Four contain long stretches from the speech. Track Two is the beginning of the speech and Track Four is from the middle of the afternoon.

Track Three provides a short interlude with a piece from an audiobook of the novella Anthem by Ayn Rand

The sound collage ends with Track Five which includes the conclusion of Sen. Sanders’ speech and some closing statements from the Department of Civil Defense.

Information About This Mix

First mixed on November 30, 2010 and released as a short pieces called Rule Number Two Will Be Told To You In Reverse, this remix was completed on December 6, 2010 and takes a broader look at this unfolding (or continuously leaking) situation.

While the first mix was only 3:48, this new re-mix is 14:20 and contains 6 individual tracks…

In case you’re not familiar with this story about “Cablegate” from Wikileaks, here’s a bit of info:

WikiLeaks’ Cablegate, the latest dump of confidential documents by WikiLeaks, has the website prominently in the news again this week. (Scroll down for live updates.)

WikiLeaks released 250,000 secret State Department documents on Sunday, including cables related to Iran and its nuclear program, leading to numerous reactions.

HuffPost’s Sam Stein reports that the Obama administration is not ruling out taking legal action against WikiLeaks after the online site’s latest leak. In July, WikiLeaks released more than 90,000 Afghan war logs. Iraq war logs were released last month. WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange says the next dump will target a U.S. megabank.
